The article says open AI is one of the biggest companies ever. I struggle to understand if their advantage is based on technical superiority, since a number of companies are close enough in performance that a novelty could easily leap frog any of them ahead of anyone else.

Or is it like they're the media favorite because they were the first when the hype began? Or is it because they have easy access to big money to keep growing?
