Calling it government funding is just a false narrative. It's a service government pays for. No different that someone subscribing to Ken's blog.
It's true that the simple fact governments own data is so unreliable that they have to pay private business for it is a problem. But cutting off access without any steps to fix it first will just lead to decisions being made without any data at all.
I can almost guarentee the next Dem administration will not take any steps to fix it either and will just start paying Politico again so kind of a wash for me. I think it's an accurate narrative, it is ridiculous that they were paying for this with tax dollars, even if they don't end up replacing it.
