I know, I live here too. I think it was Carlin who specifically talked about how American Christianity involves stepping over the poor and hungry so you don't get your Sunday best dirty on the way to church, or something along those lines.
Like Carlin, I'm just pointing out that there was a whole bit in the bible about Jesus assaulting moneylenders at the temple. Their book makes it very clear that those people deserved violence, and I think it's pretty clear who the modern equivalents are - grifters, charlatans, hypocrites who claim belief but don't act accordingly - so that's the context I choose to interpret the statement in.
