Tangent: I used to be homeless while I worked at Petco's experimental store "petcoach". They used to give use free stuff to encourage us to buy it/ market it. I ate "Just Food for Dogs" for about a week. It was actually really good once you added spices. I also ate WAY too many of those dog oreos. I wasn't even the only one. My boss had a package of dog cookies they'd munch on under their desk. We had a self-serve bar for dog treats, and the oreos were there. I think half actually went into the bar.
My mom used to own a grooming shop, and everyone there liked eating the beef jerky made for dogs better then the stuff for humans. Buncha white ladies, pepper is spicy. Lol.
My mom got a food dehydrator so she could make treats for her dogs. It's slices of fruit or meat, nothing added, just dehydrated. My nephews saw her slicing bananas to make more of the fruit kind one day, and asked it they could have some. She got some that she'd already made out of the fridge and let them try it. They liked it, and even helped her lay out the fresh fruit on the tray to make the next batch. It was cute.
That is, until they went home and proudly announced to their mom, "Grandma let us eat dog food!"
...
Is this how I find out all the pet supply industry is eating pet treats?
Basically, yeah. If you're around it long enough then natural curiosity is gonna get the better of you eventually, and then you find out it ain't half bad and get a liking for it.
We've gone the opposite direction in the last few years, though. We don't buy dog food anymore, and just make our own because it's cheaper (and can be purchased using EBT/food stamps) and better for them .
