no but really tho, is it legal to drive this on public roads?

Probably. You'd be amazed at what someone with a regular license is allowed to drive. Such as the International CXT. Basically made to be just under specs that require a CDL. (To my knowledge it is mostly a weight thing. Like 26000 pounds and CDL is needed. 25999 pounds? you're fine without.)

The laws are pretty arbitrary and leave a lot to be desired. Which is also why you see some sketchy driving by people driving the large U-Haul box trucks and other moving rental companies. Same with trailers/campers. Any random can hook up an oversized/improperly loaded trailer to their little Ford escape and drive about.

Want a boat of any size? No license needed at all!

To be fair, Ford builds them as work trucks. Like you said, the biggest thing you can buy without needing an upgraded license.

The triple cab, pickup style box, and lift kit are all aftermarket. Straight from Ford it's at most a king cab with a frame rail back. Then you're supposed to put on some kind of working back (toolbox, dump truck, lift arm). That's the kind of thing you see in official marketing images.

I used to work for a company that built garbage compactor units and put them on the back of trucks like these. The main selling point was that you only need a regular license and you can fit into narrower spaces than a full size garbage truck.

If it is it’s close. Anything over 26,000 lbs is automatically CDL which this looks close to.

Further anything over 9ft wide or 13’6” tall is automatically an oversized load. Oversized load drivers are required to have a permit for every trip and the requirements to get hired to get those permits are pretty high. No history of drug or alcohol addiction (even if recovered) 20/40 vision with a 70° field of view in both eyes. As well as being experienced in driving for several years at least already. The weight is iffy. But this looks pretty wide. I’m fairly certain either the height or weight puts this into oversized load territory.
