If you rotate it without editing the coin like done in this photo, it doesn't actually look like what they describe at all...
It isn't just me right? The coin on the right (upper one in my image) looks edited. (I can still see it tough.)
I'm gonna say the direction of the shadow helps sell the illusion of sun overhead
This is exactly it. The shadows are slightly different based on the fact that the light source hasn't rotated with the coin.
This is a clearer image and it definitely helps pick out the little details.
No it's very edited to reinforce the observation they want you to make.
