As Joseph Biden’s US presidency comes to an end, many on social media this week are saying that his legacy boils down to one thing: his active role in Israel’s fifteen-month war on Gaza, which has been widely defined as a "genocide" by human rights organisations, international bodies and scholars.

Biden’s last day as president, on 19 January, is also the first day of the planned Israel-Hamas ceasefire deal that was reportedly pushed to the finish line by the incoming administration of President-elect Donald Trump, though both Biden and Trump took credit for the deal.

This has raised more significant criticism of Biden’s role in Israel’s bombing campaign on Gaza, with the US providing $17.9bn in military aid since 7 October 2023 after the Hamas-led attacks on southern Israel and the subsequent war.

His unfaltering support for Israel led to the infamous nickname given by pro-Palestinians and social media users: "Genocide Joe".

i would be VERY upset with myself right now if i had voted for kamala harris on the pretext that the biden administration was the best option to stop the genocide as well as voting to protect lgbtqia from the likes of project 2025 since the public can now see the same tired excuse of an individual dissenter blocking everything recycled again for not enacting the equal rights amendment that could defend us against project 2025 and trump succeeded in stopping the genocide in a few days were biden couldn't in a year and half.

i know that these two facts fall on deaf ears for most democrats based on my interactions with them on lemmy; so i behooves us and the democrats who didn't overlook a genocide to figure out a way to get those who considered the genocide to be "no big deal" or simply "single issue voting" to be brought back to table.

we'll continue our descent into fascism without these people and i wish i know how we could bring them back to the table when they double down like republicans and refuse to admit that these two the reasons why they voted democrat was proven false in the last week or so.

They were the best option. The ceasefire only happened because Trump sold them the West Bank for $100m

https://m.jpost.com/international/article-837566

https://english.almayadeen.net/news/politics/netanyahu-offers-deals-to-smotrich--ben-gvir-to-secure-cease

Adelson is trumps largest donor, and wants to annex the West Bank. Trump also appointed an ambassador that says the West Bank shouldn’t exist. This is all very public. They done it in the open. What reality are you living in?

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Israel annexed far more of the west bank under the Biden administration. And Harris clearly promised to continue the genocide. AIPAC spent more on Harris than Trump.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 month ago (2 children)

The Trump administration actually broke with decades of U.S. policy by declaring that Israeli settlements in the West Bank were not inconsistent with international law, effectively endorsing Israeli claims to parts of the territory. Significantly reduced U.S. financial assistance to Palestinians, including ending funding to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency and recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and moved its embassy there to undermine the Palestinians (Adelson spent $20m for this)

Israel annexed far more of the west bank under the Biden administration.

It's getting worse over time regardless of administration, and now they'll be cheering them on and telling them to hurry up Don Jr has hotels to build for all his deluded fans.

AIPAC spent more on Harris than Trump.

They didn't spend anything this election cycle, the spent more on the republicans last one. But it's like 1m. Vs Adelson giving trump 100M for the west bank EXPLICTLY. Jesus f how do you not realise how much worse that is.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 month ago

It’s getting worse over time regardless of administration

I don't know how people aren't getting this.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Biden upheld that violation of international law.

Like I said AIPAC spent far more on dems.

https://www.commondreams.org/news/aipac-100-million

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Did you read it? It doesn't really say what you're claiming. They spent that money to push the dems to the right. Support pro-israel candidates over progressive ones in smaller races. Literally trying to push the dems right in case they won and they couldn't just pay trump to do their bidding.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Harris had more funding than Trump.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Were you somehow unaware that this was always the ultimate end goal from our ruling class?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

No I was aware before he got elected because it was public knowledge and dumbfounded people could deny the reality that doing anything to avoid getting him in would be better for the Palestinians. Guess it’s not just the conservatives prone to these 1D psyops.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Whether it was trump or harris, it was always going to end up this way; the only difference is that there are more Palestinians left alive w trump in the office, apparently.

[–] [email protected] -3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

No. Wake the fuck up from this red MAGA delusion.

She didn’t donate 100m because Trump was better for the Palestinians, did she? His victory has put the complete erasure of Palestine in reach and you have eejits like you saying ‘he’s ending the genocide’ get a fucking grip man lol

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)

If the ceasefire fails, then there's still a chance you'll be right; but if it holds, then you'll be definitely be wrong.

[–] [email protected] -2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

No. The ceasefire is going through because it’s a better deal for Israel. Trumps donor is literally a Zionist who pushed for this and made it part of the terms that caused the right wing factions to stop blocking it. This is what the extreme right of Israelis right wing govt wanted. They are celebrating your nativity.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

There was no better deal for Israel than unlimited genocide.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

ultimited genocide + cookies?

or maybe just free reign on the west bank, the option to restart in gaza at any time with free reign and US backing, and whatever they didn't announce publicly. Genocide itself won't stop.

Never stop to consider you might be the victim of zionist propaganda after you cheered when the fascist got in?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Never stop to consider you might be the victim of zionist propaganda after you cheered for the people who perpetrated a genocide.

[–] [email protected] -3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I never cheered, and we're not cheering in harmony now so I think I'm good.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I never cheered

The fuck you didn't. In fact you rabidly criticized those not cheering.

[–] [email protected] -1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

That ain’t cheering. Just a hefty dose of reality from an antifascist.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

You are a fascist. You voted for a genocide. Keep your self flattering lies in your diseased head.

[–] [email protected] -2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I am not American. I am an anarchist and have never voted. I would’ve to have kept the actual fascist out.

Your cope is pathetic. As deluded as maga. I have dubbed thee red maga. Fell for the psyops. Sad.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Fucking incoherent liberal fascist anarkiddy. But I repeat myself. I believe the latest narrative? That acknowledges Gaza as being a genocide?

You're a dumb motherfucker.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 month ago (1 children)

You believed the latest propaganda that convinced you to let the worse option in, aye.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

So far Trump is objectively better than Biden on the weight of the ceasefire deal alone.

You would have the genocide continue. You deserve what the nazis deserve.

[–] [email protected] -1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Afraid not chump

Adelson paid $20 million in exchange for moving the U.S. Embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem last cycle. His window, a megadonor for settlement development in the West Bank donated 100m to Trump with her stated goals being Israeli annexation of the West Bank and a U.S. recognition of Israeli sovereignty in all the regions of the land. Trumps #1 donor above Musk.

This was part of the deal that stopped the right wing factions in the Israeli govt from blocking the ceasefire. Are they the worse of two evils? Or is the fact that you're aligned with them escaping you?

Israeli media reports indicate that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu offered enticing proposals to Israeli Police Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, including plans to expand settlements in the West Bank and enhance security measures.

According to Israeli reports, Netanyahu is attempting to persuade Ben-Gvir and Smotrich to back the agreement by highlighting two key points: first, that Trump’s presidency will bring significant benefits to “Israel”, and second, that “Israel” will be able to resume the war if needed, with US support.

He said that his faction had demanded and "received a commitment" that the method of war would be completely changed.

That included, said Smotrich, "through a gradual takeover of the entire Gaza Strip, the lifting of the restrictions imposed on us by the [US President Joe] Biden administration, and full control of the Strip, so that humanitarian aid will not reach Hamas as it has been until now."

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

What the fuck are you talking about you absolute fucking dipshit? YOU SUPPORTED A GENOCIDE. You want to talk to me about fucking campaign donations? Moving an embassy??

YOU COMMITTED THE WORST CRIME IN THE HUMAN IMAGINATION. GO FUCK YOURSELF WITH THIS PETTY SHIT.

The absolute worst thing you can possibly say about they other side is they'll PROBABLY be ONLY EQUALLY EVIL AS YOU.

FUCK you

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Ah I see, you are insane.

I advocated for objectively the better option for Palestine.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Was it the one who secured a cease fire?

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Not really significant. It doesn’t stop the genocide. It has enabled it to penetrate deeper and now the West Bank is the main priority.

You should learn some nuance - and emotional regulation.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

You're right. I should be cold and emotionless about these things. I'm not appreciating the nuance about these things. It's complicated you see. The status quo conditions before the active slaughter are also a genocide, so us educated people can equivocate the two things.

I've fucking had it with you bloodless fucking ghouls. You want to wear the mask of moral values but you supported a fucking genocide just because it was your team in office and you think that's better and you no longer even have a fucking coherent reason anymore. You're just a fucking nazi that's still wearing a mask when there's no fucking point to anymore.

[–] [email protected] -1 points 1 month ago (2 children)

You’re obviously blinded to facts by your emotion.

I didn’t support a genocide. I advocated for the better option for Palestine.

I am an anarchist. And not American. They are not my team. I am just a realist and pragmatic.

I outlined perfectly coherent reasons above.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Are you referring to your brainless copy&paste job that's a fucking insult to compare with active fucking genocide? "An

Why not use ableism as a weapon again? Are you going to tell me I suck Putin's cock next? "Anarchist"? My 'emotions' are making me 'irrational' and I need to be like the 'serious' people who know you need to get your hands dirty and vote for the perpetrator of genocide? To be anti-genocide?

Yeah. Wow. I'm mentally ill.

Fucking piece of shit trash liberal fascist. Smirking fucking fascist still pretending you're wearing a mask.

[–] [email protected] -1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

It's not a copy and paste, well - it is but just a comment I wrote the other day.

Rest of your comment is just deranged ramblings, try engaging with the content.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

try engaging with the content

Already did, you bad faith piece of shit. Already responded by saying that the worst stone you cast is less than the thing you supported. You cosigned a genocide. You say the other side is worse because of things that are objectively less bad than active genocide. That's literally your argument with your inarticulate link dump.

That's the state of this debate right now. You're a fucking piece of shit for forcing me into such pedantry that I have to repeat it.

AND I'm going to repeat the fact that you've used ableism and slurs to make your arguments. You're just straight up fucking trash. A nazi in action, temperament and affect.

"Deranged ramblings" Nothing but giving yourself excuses to not engage. If that's your strategy then actually fuck off instead of pretending not to.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 month ago

More inane ramblings. Seek professional help.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

I advocated for the better option for Palestine.

You advocated for Trump?
