One standardized conector should be a good thing?

Absolutely. And since the underlying communications protocol for both connectors is CCS, adapters already exist if your car happens to have a different charge port.

Though, there will probably be some fenangling for the next year or two to get the final wrinkles out before we can truly have any car able to charge at any charger.
