So here is this.
It's never been an official term, I think back in time they were called "shoulder synths" but someone noticed it's a keyboard played like a guitar and someone was like "ooh "keytar! "came about and it was just way catchier, thus the keytar moniker was born!
At least I think that's how it went. It's been years since I looked into it, so I coupd be full of shit. Someone correct me if I am wrong tho. Too lazy to active research right now.
