Summary

Research reveals widespread parasitic infections in Mississippi’s Delta region, linked to failing sanitation infrastructure and poverty.

In Bolivar County, 38% of children and 73% of adults show signs of infections like hookworm, often caused by raw sewage exposure.

Parasites can lead to chronic health issues, stunted growth, and developmental delays.

Decades of systemic neglect, underfunded infrastructure, and racial disparities leave predominantly Black communities without clean water or proper wastewater systems.

Experts call for federal investment, as local governments struggle to address a $2 billion infrastructure repair backlog.

Thanks for the write up, I enjoyed it. I'd definitely like to read the theoretical and hopefully planned post about what interesting things happen at harvest in AL.
