Russia has lost 421,000 troops in Ukraine in 2024, the "highest price since the start of the invasion," Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi said in a Telegram post on Dec. 28.
The figure includes both dead and wounded and is part of the total losses of approximately 785,000 Russian troops since the beginning of the invasion in February 2022.
I found this statement collaborating the numbers. The NYT link is kind of old, perhaps it has been a busy holiday season.
Edit- this has me thinking about long range missile use, authorized in mid November
Our assessments further indicate there have been over 750,000 Russian casualties since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, with the grim milestone of one million Russians dead and wounded likely to be reached within approximately six months.
It is appropriate for me to confirm to the House that North Korean troops are currently engaged in offensive combat operations in Russia’s Kursk Oblast, where around 11,000 have been deployed.
Any other sources on that, cause the U.S. is reporting ~620,000 total casualties since the start of the war. Having trouble believing 2024 was twice as bad as 2023 and 2022 combined.

Gov.uk - Minister for the Armed Forces statement on Ukraine 19 December 2024
Yes yes, and Russia shot down double the Ukrainian air force in the first six months. Casualty reporting is hard in the moment.
