I dunno. I think there is probably very high sensitivity for deep forest thermal signals, but near civilization it's probably much more complicated to separate small fire from other thermal sources. These iot smoke detector things if in somewhat of a decent density and taking in to account thinks like wind direction, could be pretty smart and have a decent signal to noise ratio. Keeping in mind this is where th fires tend to start, it seems like a cool effort.
