I got these half square half round icons since today on my Discord. Is this a new thing ? Is this something existing that I accidentally turned on ?

Are you using web version or an app? If your friends are also on the web version and they don't see the same stuff, then maybe it's a setting like "Enhance Image" feature on OperaGX. This setting has known to cause some weird things with Discord web.
