Characters are pretty black and white, and personal relationships are limited to siblings and a father. They even killed the mother dysney style
But! This is a story of revenge, leadership, brilliant battles, epic single combat, with a fantastic animation style that totally suits LotR. Just over two hours in the universe means I want more. And there's no hobbits, wizards, or treants, and the film doesn't need them: Helm, Hera and Wolf leave you in no doubt where it is set. And there's plenty of touches from the wider world too.
This is a fan's film and a bit of lore will serve you well, but isn't required. Worth seeing on the big screen with sweeping shots to grin at, audioscapes to lift the hairs on your arms, and a story that is fleet of foot and will suck you in. And Hera's finale is fantastic in that outfit
