Not pinning this thread as it's probably nicer to focus on the best shows than the worst, but curious to see what everybody's biggest disappointments where

I think it was partly because I had just finished reading the books, and the first movie did a spectacular job of honoring those, while the second movie just kinda forgot the book existed. Actually, at times it felt like the movie was trying actively to forget about the book, which defeats the whole purpose and message of Dune. It also, ironically, makes the movie into almost exactly what Frank Herbert was trying to critize, which is the idolatry and corporatization of shallow things (without all the religious stuff, which is a whole different/ same thing). Idk, I guess it felt more Disneyed and a big money grab than a real story. Otherwise, it was a technically good movie.

I thought it was a great examination of free will and fate. Loved it. But I haven't read the books, so that didn't bias me.

Yeah, I definitely think reading the books had a huge part to play in my experience. I would be down to give it another shot with a different mindset, but I suspect I'll have the same opinion.

Interesting! I read the book before the first movie and felt pretty let down, especially by it's treatment of Lady Jessica. I liked the second movie a lot more. I think I just managed to dial more into the audio-visual journey of it all, instead of comparing it constantly with the book in my head.
