How cool is that?! AntennaPod creates a summary and stats of my year listening to podcasts directly on my device without sending it to the cloud!

My year 2024 in podcasts.

I wonder when they'll have clients for desktop or other OS, that way I could ditch Pocket Casts.

What's wrong with Pocket Casts?

They went to a subscription model for using the desktop app... If we could buy it at once as it was possible before I wouldn't even be looking for alternatives, but I despise subscriptions.

Funnily enough (although I haven't looked thoroughly) I couldn't find a way for this yet 🏴‍☠️

Their freemium model fooled me, it is indeed open-source

I thought I could synchronize what I was listening to and where I stopped with gpodder.net but this never worked because I never understood how to use it, even though I logged in on both desktop and phone, so I had to give up the idea of listening on the desktop and I only listen on the phone. If I am at home I sometimes connect to a Bluetooth speaker to have a nicer experience.

This seems like a good solution, but I also see it is missing iOS in its supported devices so it would affect my setup.

macOS/Win10, iPad, Android mobile, Shield TV, Alexa.

I use the casting/BT audio workaround yeah, oh and the subpar Alexa Skill.

I ended up using the nextcloud gpodder sync app, works a treat, there's even a nextcloud app for listening to podcasts in your browser, so I use that for desktop use.

So what exact features does it have? I need three:

  1. sync my subscription list between devices
  2. sync the time where I paused to listen to each podcast episode
  3. sync which episodes I already listened to

It does a decent job at all 3 from my experience

I also use Nextcloud gpodder - it's been set and forget in my case, very easy. Use Kasts on desktop, and AntennaPod on my phone.
