Well the truly sad element is what comes next. The rebels are not benign freedom fighters, they're jihadists with links to Islamic State and Al Qaeda.

They've been trying to clean up their image but it's still a case of out of the frying pan and into the fire unfortunately.

The country is devided on ethnic and religious lines, so unfortunately we should expect further conflict.
