Hmmm... I guess "Matrix" is an overly popular name for apps, or else someone is very confused because my secure chat is still up.

Also, don't stockpile evidence against yourself, even if it's in a locked room, especially is many people have keys. Vanishing messages, rotate keys, rotate chats: there are many security practices that could have helped them here.
