Not sure if you mean ones like in these?
If so, those are actually a bit different and have multiple colours along one length of floss. Whereas with a blend it's just literally taking one strand of your colour A, and one strand of your colour B, and threading the needle with both at the same time.
You see it called for sometimes to get a particular effect like in this project, or sometimes to help create a sort of mid-way shade between the two used in the blend that otherwise doesn't exist as its own colour.
The variegated ones like in the pics are really cool as well though, I like to use them for blackwork especially!
I just recently watched your blackwork tutorial! The pattern from the video is next on my to-do list, so I might try it with some of the multicolor floss now!
Oh god, that video is so old I'm afraid to go back and check whether it even made any sense at all ๐ Hopefully it was at least a bit useful.
Blackwork is maybe my fave type of stitching I've tried so far, honestly, it's extremely satisfying (and so quick compared to cross stitch!). Looking forward to seeing what you come up with ๐
