World News
A community for discussing events around the World
Rules:
-
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
- Post news articles only
- Video links are NOT articles and will be removed.
- Title must match the article headline
- Not United States Internal News
- Recent (Past 30 Days)
- Screenshots/links to other social media sites (Twitter/X/Facebook/Youtube/reddit, etc.) are explicitly forbidden, as are link shorteners.
-
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
-
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed. Sources that have a Low or Very Low factual reporting rating or MBFC Credibility Rating may be removed.
-
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
-
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF 10/19
-
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
-
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
-
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

But if he does not do this he won't get re-elected. Don't you understand? It's all because he has to appeal to voters. Definitely not the millions of AIPAC dollars he received.
I agree that Biden's unquestionable support of Israel is a huge problem, but he's legit not doing it for the donations.
He got so much more than any other US politicians, because Israel used to know that no amount of bribes could ever buy that level of loyalty.
Bibi never got that memo tho, he just knew he could treat Biden like shit and still get everything he wants.
The real reason Biden has this level of support for Israel is even stupider, because Biden is older than Israel.
He's told the story multiple times over the decades, when he was a toddler and Israel was created, his dad told him to promise to always protect Israel because they were victims.
And it's fucking insane that over 70 years later that's what's been guiding US foreign policy for four years and why we keep arming a genocidal religious ethnostate even though it was a huge contributed to trump regaining office.
But that's why Biden will always give Israel everything they want, a promise a toddler made to his dad almost a century ago.
Where did you hear this story about Biden making a promise to protect Israel?
https://www.reuters.com/world/us/i-am-zionist-how-joe-bidens-lifelong-bond-with-israel-shapes-war-policy-2023-10-21/
Sorry it took so long.
To find that I had to go thru all the trouble of searching "Biden dad Israel" on Duck Duck go. And then had to even click on the top result.
I can understand why that answer would have evaded someone.
But that's not exactly what I said is it, and it's not his own words...
So I went the extra mile for you man, I clicked the second link too
Except the problem with Bidens own words, these days they trail off.

He starts the story there, but literally just trails off
That was only 9 days ago tho...
Is that recent enough?

The US supports Israel so that Israel can stop Iran from becoming a bigger threat.
Why would Iran be a threat to Israel and the US? Could it be because of violently overthrowing the democrwtically elected leader and installing a puppet that murdered and tortured his people with US and Israeli aid for 30 years, so the US could steal oil from Iran?
Naah, why would anyone feel offended by this? Clearly they are just evil and don't like bald eagles...
Also the US doesnt give a shit about Iran specifically. The US needs Israel as the rusty knife in the side of West Asia to sow division among the Arab and muslim nations. If they were to get rid of their corrupted leaders and Israel they could quickly grow to a power bloc that can't be pushed around anymore.
The US needed perpetual war and instability in the Region. And Israel is a good means to instigate that. Meanwhile Europe suffers greatly from the US instability workings.
Various reasons have been given for the Iran-Israel conflict. Iran and Israel had previously enjoyed warm ties due to common threats, but by the 1990s the USSR had dissolved and Iraq had been weakened.[29] Iranian Islamists have long championed the Palestinian people, whom they perceive as oppressed.[30] Scholars believe that by supporting the Palestinians, Iran seeks greater acceptance among Sunnis and Arabs, both of whom dominate the Middle East.[31][32] Ideologically, Iran seeks to replace Israel with a one-state solution (though Iran has at times also supported the two-state solution),[33] and has predicted Israel's demise.[34] Israel sees Iran as an existential threat,[35] and accuses its regime of harboring genocidal intentions.[36] Consequently, Israel has sought sanctions and military action against Iran to stop it from acquiring nuclear weapons.[37]
Iran qnd Israel shared "warm ties" while the Shah was in power as a western puppet. His internal police was trained and worked together with Mossad and CIA to torture murder and dissappear tens of thousands of people.
The moment things changed is pretty straight forward. When the revolution kicked out the Western puppet. Unfortunately the revolutionary moment was seized by the theocrats who now also run an opressive regime.
You deliberately left out the paragraph right before that explaining all of this.
I didn’t deliberately leave it out. I just didn’t see a point in including it. I was sharing this info in response to this comment of yours:
To point out that Iran was a threat to Israel long after the coup to remove Mohammad Mossadegh that you seemed to be referring to:
The August 1953 coup stemmed from U.S. fears over the Soviet Union increasingly wanting a piece of Iran as Communists agitated within the country.
