@[email protected] Comparing MK1 to Tuff E Nuff? Ouch. There were only 4 playable characters in that one, and one had a cloned moveset. Tuff E Nuff's instant replay feature was kind of neat when paired with the Nintendo Switch Online version's ability to record a short video, but hit and hurtboxes are so much jankier. I had the chance to play both the Super NES and Genesis releases and to young me the blood code was interesting, but I appreciated Liu Kang's altered fatality.

To be fair, the original MK relied more on its shock value at the time than the actual gameplay.
And thatβs from the perspective of someone who bought it day one in SNES.
Certainly not a bad game by any means, but very basic and rather stiff.
The sequel built upon it greatly and was such a massive improvement in every way.
