“Some days it just flows and I feel like I’m born to do this, other days it feels like I’m trudging through hell. Every day I make the choice to show up and see what I’ve got, and to try and be better. My advice: keep showing up.” — Des Linden, Olympian and 2018 Boston Marathon champion

Don't show up if your body is seriously signalling stress. Work out in your own pace. Learn to listen to your body and learn to read its signals.

There's a reason that most professional athletes are wrecks at the end of their career. Their attitude and approach is fundamentally different from yours. You don't want to wreck your health over becoming healthier. Run enough to improve slightly or to at least stay healthy.

Have fun.

Thanks for that. I find articles like this highly motivating, but need to be taken down to earth sometimes. It is not reasonable to compare yourself to someone who made sports into their career. Just like it is not reasonable to compare yourself to an actor who is getting paid to look a certain way.
