I started the goal of running at least one mile every single day a while back, inspired by an Olympic athlete I got to know while working next door to the Olympic Training Center.

I had made it five straight months without missing a day until yesterday. Out with gf and her friends. Was planning to do it after got home, but we were out late.

Once I figured out that we were gonna be there later than I planned, I tried to get out for a bit. But gf wouldn't let me get up and run around the block. Meh, not the right shoes anyway.

So just like that, the streak is over.

Rule I follow: if you miss even a single day, the countdown resets.

Some of the running streak people I know have done it for over 3 years. I got a long ways to go.

Pretty satisfying about sticking to it day after day, even when the weather’s bad or I’m just feeling lazy. Some days, I’ll go out for a quick mile, while other days, if I have more time, I’ll push myself and run four or five miles just to mix it up.

Fun way to stay committed, and I’ve found that it’s given me more focus and motivation in other areas of life, too.

I definitely wanna make it a least a year, but I plan to go years. (Running with covid wasn't awesome, but I did it!)

Physically, I’m fitter than I’ve ever been. So it's been awesome so far.

And now spare pair of shoes in my car. Date night or no date night, I'm getting my mile in. :)

“I suppose it sounds archaic, but I cannot help thinking that people with motor boats miss a great deal. If they would only keep to rowboats or canoes, and use oar or paddle themselves, they would get infinitely more benefit… But I rarely took exercise merely as exercise. Primarily I took it because I liked it…”

Cold and wet outside. So I went, did my business, came back in. I should have stayed in and did treadmill or rowing machine.

“Some days it just flows and I feel like I’m born to do this, other days it feels like I’m trudging through hell. Every day I make the choice to show up and see what I’ve got, and to try and be better. My advice: keep showing up.” — Des Linden, Olympian and 2018 Boston Marathon champion
