most statues commemorating the confederacy were put up in the 20th century
That's not surprising as that's where the nasty racism and racial violence took place (or at least more so then than now)
yeah, and they make people feel unsafe as they are basically symbols that the nasty racism is still around. imagine leaving up a statue of Stalin put up in 1995.
