Well yeah, but shutting down legit game mechanics they designed because players found a way to use it to help each other even if no one was there in person at the same precise time (thanks, servers not merging) is definitely an extra shitty step they didn't need to take..
It's not even like players can use cheats to grind endless candles or anything, it really is just pettiness.
I actually have something that runs candles for me. So you totally can and besides season passes thats how they make money to keep the game going. So I get it, but they dont need to make the cnalde values painful. It already takes long enough just running around and grabbing wax to fill a single candle. If its gonna be like that might as well give us all an autorun feature so people aren't resorting to 3rd parties to walk around the map automatically.
TGC is valued at nearly 2 billion dollars. They're doing just fine, and will continue doing just fine without trying to push people even harder in to buying candles and other IAP.
I can completely understand their issue with 3rd party hacks and glitches that clear entire maps, and they could have easily just shut those down, but they decided to also completely remove a whole layer of player cooperation that makes up for their bad design because they're control freaks who don't actually play the game..
Hard pass on that take. They've got VC claws hooked deep into them over 6 rounds of funding. The game has to turn a hard profit as well as the merchandise. Sequoia Capital and TPG expect their money back and then some. The way Sky works is they make the candles tedious to collect a large amount. Then, they release items that typically take 3-5 full candle runs to purchase. This creates FOMO if you want some of the items available that season. You can either grind candleruns (3rd party tools for this are all barred and they do have some sort of cheat detection in place), or you can purchase the candles immediately to acquire the item. Since theres not too much else in this game, they have to press you for candles to get money. It is shitty, but to say they dont need the monetization with their revenue... How do you think they made the revenue in the first place?
