I admit, first time I read that headline I was like, "WHAT? Israel adding Asbestos to their bombs now? How sinister. What's next - radon?" It took a minute to get up to speed.

Same. Per the article, the structures being destroyed have asbestos in them from when they were built; this is the cause of it being released

Edit: I’ve never before seen a comment like the reply to mine here below that was so clearly made by an AI bot

Asbestos is a massive curse that the world should never have been put into their buildings. There are tons of buildings all over the world that still have asbestos in them.

It has great material properties aside from, you know, destroying people's lungs. So I can understand why the world was eager to use it before understanding the risks.

The ancient Romans made it a point to not buy slaves from the asbestos mines due to their poor health, it has been known for far too long that asbestos is harmful. It also happens to be insanely useful.

The ancient Romans used asbestos?

Edit: damn, it has been used since forever...

I am aware of its incredible fireproofing ability. Also it is one of the few, if only, minerals that can be woven into fabric.

I wouldn't have put it past them.

[–] poo 5 points 1 month ago

Me too - wouldn't put it past them, Israel is disgusting enough to sink to that level.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I mean.. the effect is the same. The buildings didn't explode themselves.

[–] bazus1 5 points 1 month ago

Well, my second thought was, "that's pretty short-sighted if you're gonna Zionist all over the destroyed area.. why would you introduce a carcinogen when..." and by then it clicked. The zionists don't want carcinogens either, but explosively spreading existing asbestos is the price they're willing to pay for genocide.

Yeah the problem is the building material used. The headline had me confused as fuck too.
