Do you remember the Tea Party? They were not the beginning of the story.

Were you there for Reagan's administration? The ending fairness doctrine? They were not the beginning either, but they play a role in this too. A lot of runway was paved by that.

The John Birch Society. The business plot. The "lost cause" myth. Further still. This story really begins with slavery, and our failure to atone for it.

Yeah, I remember the Tea Party, no I was not there for Reagans administration, I have heard of the John Birch Society, I realize this has been a long time comming.

But it seems like it accellerated quickly in the last fifteen years, and I am interested in what triggered the accelleration.

The right is always emboldened by economic instability, and whenever outgroups they vilify gain more acceptance in society. Yet I can't help but think Russia getting a de facto asset into office has had a lot to do with it.
