There is precedent for international fans keeping a series alive that isn't terribly popular in Japan. The one that comes to mind is Welcome to Japan, Ms. Elf (source from a J Novel Club employee).
I was going to ask if this ever worked since at least with SJ doesn't matter how many westerners read on their app, it gets cancelled because of the japanese.
Yeah, different publishers are going to be more or less tolerant of a series that underperforms in the domestic market. The digital-only publications are probably much more able to accommodate that than the physical magazines.
That's actually the founder of JNC himself.
