This is a photo shared by Executive Producer, Joseph Mallozzi, from the writer's room of Stargate Atlantis.
Before it was cancelled (allegedly in favour of Stargate Universe) the writers were busy planning the story arc of Season 6, and this was what they had planned at the time. Obviously not the final titles of the episodes. The plan was that if Season 6 didn't get the go ahead, the script for the two-part opener would be reworked to become the Atlantis DVD movie "Extinction". Unfortunately that didn't come to pass either.
Mallozzi had commented that one plot line included an alternate universe Atlantis City that had been taken over by a mysteriously resurrected Michael who had turned the crew into his hybrid cronies.
One thing we didn't need more of was Michael. Which also made what could've been a normal pregnancy into something outright stupid.
The general idea is fine, turning Wraith into people they could work with. And it going wrong is fine too, but they didn't build anything with it. They even used the Michael plot to attempt to undo a mistake they shouldn't have, because it was too late.
