Imagine Lemmy as a former virgin Reddit forest, burned to ashes by wildfire. New pioneer organisms will soon start to take root, mainly simple and primitive fungi, plants and critters. These old memes are those analogs. They latch on and build a bed of fertile shit so that more sophisticated shitposter (me) can later replace them. Life finds a way.
