The rise of capitalism from the long 16th century onward is associated with a decline in wages to below subsistence, a deterioration in human stature, and an upturn in premature mortality.

Where progress has occurred, significant improvements in human welfare began only around the 20th century. These gains coincide with the rise of anti-colonial and socialist political movements.

Here's another article showing that it's a misconception blaming capitalism, as it's really every form of government that inequality rises. However, it is always socialist programs that make the world more equitable. You cannot trust that a society will take care of it's citizens, you have to mandate it.

Universal health care, and basic income would vault the U.S. into the top ten of every metric showing citizens health/happiness. Right now we're woefully down the list.
