Tlaxcaltecs were the people of Tlaxcala who were the target of the "Flower Wars". There's a very good chance that when Cortés showed up Tlaxcalan forces capitalized on the chance to swing the power balance in the region, by wiping out the citizens in the altepetl of Cholula.
