It depends: do you want fries with that?
Having an associated degree, directly helped me get the job and the raise that I have right now. Even tho i definitely see the argument that "what you really know" is more important than a piece of paper, the reality is HR's are depending on that piece of paper more than ever before. Even for lower income entry level jobs.
I don't necessarily agree with that strategy, but it IS the reality and one people need to accept.
My role right now, I applied for, and they said, "Hmmm, not just yet." I got my associates degree, re-applied, and they said, "Ok, come on in!"
The key is just to do it as inexpensively as possible.
