we are essentially facing a dictatorship from a GOP candidate

And a Democrat establishment constantly seeking to appease and compromise with them.

Meanwhile, the Dem base is as prone to hysterics around drugs, migrants, and "rising crime rates" as any conservative. Far right pundits love to prey on liberal suburban insecurities to get the reactionary social policies they want.

All of this is rooted in a general American bigotry. It isn't in any way unique to a single party.

What has drug control got to do with anything?

Anyone rational would be trying to reduce usage and control dangerous or addictive ones.
