Agreed. Absolutely abusive.
It's still very cool armor though... and at least (I think) no one is using war elephants anymore.
The armor is indeed an impressive historic piece of defense technology! I wonder why they left the lower legs unprotected? That created a weak spot I guess. Considering spears were used a lot on the battlefields of that age, it was probably possible to cut their tendons but I am of course just guessing here.
Would they be able to protect the legs and still give it enough movement?
Why not? Think of medieval knight armor.
Elephants aren't people. Their legs work differently.
How?
Well, for one thing, they're quadrupeds. For another, they walk on their toes.
That is both true of course. However, I don't understand how that would mechanically interfere with wearing armor.
