This is a very one dimensional view. He’s some info about the other side and why these things are still happening https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Islamist_terrorist_attacks.
IMO, as an American, I would recommend checking out independent journalists where they explain western imperialism and the many wars and terrorist groups we helped fund so as to try regime change and to acquire the natural resources in those areas.
Your source is Wikipedia, which is well for the basics but not for learning about the causes and effects of foreign countries interfering in other countries, especially when said countries already elect people democratically. Then that foreign country comes and funds opposition and replaces said democratically elected person with a puppet that appeals to that foreign country and agrees to give the natural resources while screwing the civilians of that nation.
I completely agree it’s very complex. Western governments are happy to aid Islamic extremism if it gets them the power and resources. This often backfires because the extremists goal is often ideals based. It’s done as more of a means to an end rather than a preference. It doesn’t really change the problem with Islamic extremism being a real problem that needs to be taken seriously and ultimately destroyed. There’s no place in a modern world for the barbarism that is directly caused by Islamic extremism or western imperialism. But if I were to pick a side I would choose the side with the moral and ethical high(er) ground of respecting human rights, women’s rights, and peoples freedoms to live the lives they choose so long as they don’t hurt other people.
It is understandable to belive the military propaganda because we are born and grow up listening to it until we start to criticize and question those in power.
I suggest to read and watch independent journalists to see the non-status quo view points as well, even better if they are critical of imperialists.
My point is that if you look at countries with Muslim majority or sharia law, human rights are far more often than in non Muslim countries not respected. If this statement offends you, you are part of the problem. This may be difficult to see if it is the status quo but looking from the outside it seems obvious the moral thing to do is let you daughters go to school, be free from fear of “honour” killings, allow people to be who they want to be without fear of being thrown off a building and the list goes on.
I am under no illusions that imperialist countries have many problems but when it comes to human rights they have progressed beyond the Stone Age.
