I remember PS2 launch. It felt like I had it for a couple years before games worth buying started coming out. My friend had Ridge Racer V, which he played for about a week before never touching it again. I remember we went back to playing PS1 games with PS2’s texture smoothing for a while. Often we just used it to play rented DVDs. Of course, later on it had some of the best games ever made.
Same can be said for PS3 really.
True. Still have mine for MGS4.
What a damn shame they won’t release that game to other devices.
They would probably have to remake it because the PS3 has a unique processor and the game engine won’t run on anything else.
Well.. with that new MGS3 remake.. could we get lucky?!
Maybe. Although with that remake of Silent Hill 2, Konami turned the wife into a fat chipmunk. And MGS4 has supermodel women. Soooo…
There is a PS3 emulator. I don’t know how reliable it is right now.
I’ve tried the emulator before, and damn it, it plays well in some parts and bad in others. The only game I want to play on there too.
Time to pick up a used PS3 if you can. They might eventually figure out how to emulate it well.
The PS2 is one of those consoles that had fairly bizarre hardware architecture compared to say, a PC for example.
Developers took a few years to figure out the hardware and really learn how to take advantage of it. They didn't get much or any pre-release dev time, so they were learning how to use it while gamers were just getting their hands on it. Thus, the better titles came later in the consoles life.

Same deal with the PS3. Metal Gear Solid 4 was a masterpiece.
