We in c/Neoliberal support:

Neoliberals can be found in many political parties and we are not dogmatic supporters of specific parties. But we tend to find ourselves agreeing more often with parties that espouse liberal values, internationalism and centrist economics, such as the Democrats in the US, Liberal Democrats in the UK, FDP in Germany, Renaissance/MoDem in France, the Liberal Party in Canada, and so on.

Isn't she polling even worse than Biden was?

[–] Coffee_Addict 2 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Many of those polls were attached to Biden and the Biden campaign itself and her roll in it as VP.

She hasn’t been campaigning as the top of the ticket, so we will have to wait and see what those polls will actually look like once she opens the campaign war chest and drops a bunch of campaign ads on Trump. Also, her VP will choice will definitely influence things.

I feel that the Democrats have been doing no messaging in their campaigns other than "not trump" and "defeat trump" and "threat to democracy". So, if all of that is true, then why are they sticking to candidates that they know will be problematic for a lot of people who haven't grown past tradition? Why don't they wait until this immediate threat passes, and push for DEI progress when things are more stable? I guess even just acknowledging that will probably be considered racist or sexist by some, and state that that attitude is part of the problem, but how much progress are we going to make if their messaging is true and democracy dies? None. Zero. Negative. That's how much.

They definitely need to campaign more on what Biden and Harris accomplished over the last four years - there is a lot of good to pull from. Hopefully, they will start to do that now that this whole nomination crisis is (hopefully) subsiding.

One problem they need to overcome is the problem of Trump himself; anything with his name in it instantly gets more traction than anything else. Anecdotally, I noticed this even in the fediverse; posts about policy are much more quiet, whereas posts about Trump (or republican craziness in general) tend to have much more activity.

The problem Trump poses is everyone, whether they love him or hate him, tunes in to listen. I’d wager that is part of the democrats messaging problem and they need to figure out how to spread messages about their accomplishments outside of Trump, while also contending with the reality that messaging with Trump spreads the farthest.

Biden had a pretty solid four years, so it's absolutely insane that he's being ousted and the guy who killed over a million Americans through incompetence and malice, and left the country in literal flames, is polling hire. It's insane!

If that's the case with trump traction, then they need to be spreading messages about all the damage that fuckwit caused, not leaning hard on this vague "defeat him" campaign. Half of American voters don't know shit from Shinola, TELL THEM why trump is a bad idea. Directly tell them. The high road is headed straight to hell.
