Put the new CPU in and clear the cmos (turn off PSU and bios battery for at least a few minutes) and try again. 5000 series should be the least picky with memory, but you never know what bios setting/memory setting could be making the CPU angry.
I'm annoyed that worked.
I had already reset the CMOS, but this time after installing it with the PSU off and battery out I went and had dinner.
I am now fully upgraded and running!
