When the system they replaced cost $2 for as many trips as you want in a 24-hour period, and even the much-criticised expensive Translink fares cost $4.34 in the worst case for such a distance (and the trip I took specifically would have cost $2.84, had buses been running), and these things cost upwards of $15 for a short 4k trip, it's an insanely expensive option.
