I used to use Retroarch in the past, but on a degoogled phone I can't get it to work, download cores etc.

On Retroarch, I used to play a lot with gambatte and a few shaders that made it look really close to how it was on gameboy/GBC. Now I find myself having to use pizzaboy instead and it looks quite bad in comparison, and the shaders make it even worse.

Anyone knows of a way to get back to my old usecase? Even Retroarch from fdroid refuses to work for me. On pc I am using standalone emulators for everything, but on the phone I really feel like Retroarch is the only good option for old systems/handhelds especially.

Have you tried downloading RetroArch directly from RetroArch? You may want to try one of the other versions available

I tried, but saw the link to F-Droid and gave that a try. Will try again after work. There's no gambatte apk, right? Though even if there is, I doubt it'd have support for shaders or retroachievements.

You should be able to find that info on the emulation wiki

Upstream development has stopped and while it has great accuracy, it doesn't support many additional features like Super Game Boy emulation.

I doubt it would have retro achievements support. It also seems to only list Linux, Windows, and Mac support
