Force them to commit or repeal Chinese tariffs

[–] Maggoty 23 points 6 months ago (1 children)

The tariffs were explicitly to protect them. To prevent them from having to compete. We're about to eat a lot of shit.

Well they have to first compete.. I have yet to see a good under $25k mass produced EV

[–] Maggoty 7 points 6 months ago (1 children)

And now you won't. They don't have to work their prices down now.

The issue I'm seeing here is that there isn't anything to protect legacy auto does not make a product that is remotely comparable

Those tariffs exist to level the playing field against Chinese auto makers in a global marketplace. When the state sponsors companies, it's not a true capitalist market. Other nations literally can't compete.

Yes, I realize we give US automakers tax breaks. We shouldn't do that either. But not pretend this is a fair and open market either.

Other nations literally can compete. It's not like subsidies are a uniquely chinese idea. The US sponsors companies all the time.

Governments can also nationalize industries. Its wrong to say they can't compete. No, they choose not to.
