A hoaxed Facebook post sparked concern from some extremely gullible Hoosiers who believed a man-eating turtle was in Bloomington’s Lake Monroe. The article by a wannabe screenplay writer Kevin Goodman said that a 9ft long and 300-year-old snapping turtle had killed a person in the lake according to “forensic scientists at Purdue University”. The piece said decapitated human remains were found recently. The post contained additional false details and was easy to fact-check with Purdue U. and the coroner.

Gotta love mysterious space junk! Australia's coasts seem to be getting all the fun oddities lately.

The huge chunk of ambergris was found lodged inside the sperm whale — and scientists believe it ruptured its intestine, causing its death and subsequent beaching in La Palma.

A 19-foot Burmese python — the longest ever recorded — was caught by local hunters in South Florida's Big Cypress National Preserve this week. It was caught on Monday by 22-year-old Jake Waleri, who brought the python to the Conservancy of Southwest Florida in his hometown of Naples, the conservancy said. Officials there measured the snake at 19 feet and 125 pounds, and said it set a new world record for length.

This is not an uncommon thing for herd animals to be killed en masse when lightning hits the ground. India is experiencing heavy storms and flooding and a livestock loss like this to one farmer adds to the distress.
