If so you should make an announcement and sticky it.

[Not me, that's the title of the article.]

One of my favorite hobbies (which I have previously discussed) is “digital archaeology.” I love finding, digitizing, archiving and sharing audio and video from the past that may not have mage the transition from analog to digital. I get great personal enjoyment from digging through old cassettes, video tapes, and even computer disks in hopes of finding something that got left behind, something that never made it to the internet and putting it there. To be fair, 95% of what I find already exists in some form. Most of the movies and television shows I find on old tapes have been released on physical media and/or are available to stream, and that stuff isn’t very exciting. The television commercials I find get uploaded to their own YouTube channel (VHS Dumpster Dive). All the home movies I find get archived; some get shared publicly while others may never leave my hard drive.

It’s actually pretty rare for me to find a VHS recording that hasn’t made its way to the internet in some form. It’s extremely rare to find something that nobody seems to remember.

Yesterday, I think I found one.

It would be great for there to be a place we can discuss the newest episodes of Star Trek with fellow Trekkies on Lemmy!

EDIT: I'm a mod here now so it looks like I'll be running the discussion threads. Excited for April 4!

(This was quietly deleted from the @startrek.webaite magazine without explanation, so I'm putting it here if that's alright. If talking about Star Trek isn't allowed, what is?)

We were talking about what famous people we shared a birthday with. She told me she already knew about Bill Clinton, so I looked up a list and learned for the first time that Gene Roddenberry was born on August 19th.

Then I was surprised again to find out that Jonathan Frakes has the same birthday.

Then I was surprised AGAIN to find out that Jonathan Frakes' character, William T. Riker, also has the same birthday.

AND, according to Memory Alpha:

  • William Marshall (Dr. Daystrom)
  • Diana Muldaur (Ann Mulhall / Miranda Jones / Dr. Pulaski)
  • Robert Blackman (Costume Designer)

My birthday, not so interesting. She doesn't even like Star Trek. 😑

Its finally here! Mike and Rich face off in Star Trek: The Next Generation trivia showdown! It should be noted that this board game had a copyright of 1993 on it. This, I think, would mean that it was released during the series run and doesn't have any questions from season 7. That alone is fine, but also the game had some kind of weird layout to it. It was meant to roll dice and travel around the board. Each question had a symbol next to it which mean it belonged to some sort of category? It was related to something on the board, etc etc...

Point being, many questions were lacking context such as episode name and situation. I.e. Ambassador Blorgon did this.... well, neither of us have a photographic memory so specific names, planets, sectors, etc are fuzzy without context. There have been many Ambassador so-and-so's The questions with context, such as episode name, really honed in the skills of Mike or Rich Evans. We also had to struggle through the horrendous mispronunciations of Jay.

In the next episode of Star Trek trivia, I think we'll have Jay go through the questions and maybe ask ones that have a title in the question? Or get a different trivia game? What do you think?

We've also floated the idea of team trivia? Mike and Rich vs .... ?

The limits of embarrassing YouTube Star Trek trivia are as endless as space itself...

Without a doubt, STD is the most controversial series in the franchise. What do you like about the series as a whole? What do you dislike about the series as a whole?
