Not sure whether to post this to here or [email protected], so I'll just start with here then cross post if that's a thing Lemmy can do.

So my fiancée brought over some old Battlestar Galactica blu-rays. This one basically. And it seems to only output in stereo 2.0 LCPM. The only suggestion I've seen is to change the settings in the Blu-ray Audio Output menu to either PCM or Bitstream, but I've done that and nothing has changed. Also changed it in the normal settings menu to AV Amplifier and LPCM or Dolby, and neither has done anything. Now, it is being output through a soundbar that doesn't accept DTS or DTS:HD (the Bose 600), which is fine that it changes to PCM, but you think it would at least change to PCM 5.1 instead of stereo PCM 2.0.

After searching around the internet, I saw people suggest PS3 or Xbox Series X, which can apparently downmix DTS to Dolby Digital 5.1. I don't have an Xbox, but I do have a PS3, so I tried that out and sure enough, after spending like 30 seconds messing with settings, and playing the blu-ray, I'm getting that LPCM 5.1 as the output audio format and it all sounds so much better. There's an actual center channel so I can understand characters, and the surrounds are being used, etc. Apparently if I could find an optical output cable I can probably even get it to Dolby Digital 5.1, too, but not sure if that's worth buying an extra cable for. LPCM 5.1 is a little quiet, but otherwise sounds fine.

So, what's the deal? Is the PS5 a worse blu-ray player than the PS3 or Xbox Series X? That doesn't make any sense. I'd prefer if I could play old BDs through my PS5 to keep 4k capabilities, as it does look a little worse visually on my PS3, but they sound so much better that I'll probably keep using it for now.

Tl;dr: Does anyone know how to get PS5 to output Blu-ray DTS audio as LPCM 5.1 or Dolby Digital 5.1 instead of defaulting to 2.0?

Our glorious leader is away on vacations, so it falls on me to post this weekly thread. Just going to copy what I posted at the nintendo community, hope you don't mind.

• Didn’t get to play New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, but plan to at least clear one level every day, starting from this weekend.
• Completed second case in Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, started a third one. Loving the game.
• Dragon Quest XI is probably the only one I spent most time playing. Going to keep playing it.
• Beat Nergigante, with some help in Monster Hunter: World. Now have to look for other Elder Dragons, but since I have Rathian armour which has -10 Dragon damage resistance, going to grind some better armour. Thinking about High Metal or Ingot. I was thinking about pausing the game for a while to focus on DQ XI, but then I thought I would have to “git gut” in MH again, so going to stick with it. Couple of sessions every week at least to keep the skills from deteriorating very much.

What about you guys? What are you currently playing? And what do you want to start next?

A Turn-based Colony Sim.

Hey guys - I know this is a slightly older game but wanted to see if anyone had ran into this in the past (or present).

I recently got a PS5 and my wife got me a few games for my birthday. DMC5 was one of them. I went to install it and it would not go past 99% no matter how long it was left (eg hours). Even after deleting several times, rebooting, etc.

After some googling I ran across an article posted elsewhere on the web that discussed a similar problem with other games that solved the issue with disconnecting from the internet then doing the install, then reconnecting. I tried that and the install worked. It seemed to then check about an update, did it and I went about playing. I played for several levels as Nero and checked online - saw there were multiple add ons (red and blue orbs I believe for a buck or so) and went ahead and grabbed them. It added them to my account when I logged back in. So far so good.

I tried later to add more red orbs - it would let me buy them on the PlayStation store but when I log in it is not adding them to the account (I can see them in the transaction history on my PS5) but no matter what I do they do not add. Other weird thing - I cannot seem to access the store via the game for some reason. I have uninstalled and reinstalled it - again - and still nothing. I had to do the internet disconnect as well this time to get it installed.

Anyone else had this problem with the game or any add ons? This is the disc version just to clarify. The first add ons worked fine for whatever reason.
