An abandoned community for the Philippines and all things Filipino! 🇵🇭

Started out as a Reddit alternative during the blackout from Jun 12-21, 2023 with over 1k members in just a few days. Fizzled faster than the "I Didn't Do It" kid after a month until it became the internet's Centralia in less than a year.

MANILA - Kabataan Party List Representative Raoul Manuel dared the officials of the Department of Trade and Industry, and members of the Marcos Jr. administration to live on minimum wage for a month, after Trade Secretary Alfredo Pascual issued a statement last week on the sufficiency of the existing minimum wage for a family of five.

During on Thursday’s House Committee on Appropriations hearing on DTI’s proposed 2024 budget, Manuel said that the trade chief’s statements appear to be “detached from reality”.

This observation did not sit well with Pascual. He clarified that minimum wage should be studied by experts, but the DTI is working hard to help improve industries so that more Filipinos will have the opportunity to get better paying jobs.

The 12 officials and employees were placed under preventive suspension until the administrative process of their case is terminated. The suspension will not exceed six months, but the officials will not receive their pay during the said duration, “except when the delay in the disposition of the case is due to their fault, negligence or petition.”

"Buildworld identified the top 10 destination cities in every country according to each country's Tripadvisor page. We filtered the listings in each of these cities to find reviews of local architecture. Next, we calculated the percentage of architectural sites in each city that have a 4.5- or 5-star rating and ranked the cities according to this metric," wrote Buildworld in a release. In Asia, Quezon City bested cities such as Dubai, Jerusalem, and Istanbul. No cities from Japan, Singapore, or China made the top 10 in Asia.

“Of course, you have traffic. I mean, there’s traffic all over the world in areas that the economy is really doing [well],” said Joey Concepcion III, who acts as the President’s private sector lead advisor on the jobs sector.

Concepcion is part of Marcos’ Private Sector Advisory Council, a close-knit circle of billionaires that provide recommendations on infrastructure, agriculture, tourism, health, jobs, and digital infrastructure.

Ayala Avenue will be closed to cars on September 3, 10, 17, and 24 from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. to provide more pedestrian-friendly spaces for Makati residents and visitors. Pedestrians can take a relaxing stroll, bike, and roller skate in Ayala Avenue’s entire 2.3-kilometer stretch. Fur parents are also welcome to take their pets on early morning walks.

“But who would keep us safe if there were no police?” A better question to ask is: “Does the police actually keep us safe right now?” Or perhaps: “Why is it that safety and managing harm is monopolized by an inherently violent apparatus?” The fact of the matter is that the police do not deter harm; they react to it in a violent way, by inflicting physical violence or caging someone away.

Employees should be encouraged to return to the office as remote work options cut down consumption and slow down the economy, a member of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s Private Sector Advisory Council (PSAC) said.

In a televised public briefing, PSAC Lead for Jobs and Go Negosyo founder Jose Ma. “Joey” Concepcion III said he had mixed views on having work-from-home or remote job options following the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Kasi kapag work-from-home tayo, anong mangyayari sa Pilipinas. There will be less mobility. If there is less mobility, there is less consumption,” said Concepcion.

“Iyong work-from-home, okay lang iyan sa pandemya, pero sa panahon natin ngayon, wala namang pandemic eh. So dapat tuluy-tuloy ang (we should continue the) encouragement to work-from-office para may disiplina rin (so there would also be discipline),” he added.

When one thinks of the world of Filipino music, its place on the world-stage and its relationship with themes, one may only take a vertical slice of the culture through the lens of OPM Rock and its headliners of the early 2000’s to see the relationship that songs had with culture and its trajectory over the years. With themes of heartbreak, identity, struggle and sensuality, it was no wonder Armi Millare, once the voice of Up Dharma Down, had a firm grip on the zeitgeist that Filipino music held over the airwaves at such a time.

On August 1, the LTFRB issues a show-cause order to Uber, after it finds the TNC has continued to accept new drivers into its system despite being ordered to stop doing so last July 26.

Nearly two weeks after it issued a show-cause order, the LTFRB suspends Uber’s operations for one month.

Undaunted by the number of local government units declaring them unwelcome, as well as a lawsuit for their drag portrayal of Jesus Christ, Pura Luka Vega recently held a persona non grata-themed performance at an undisclosed location.

A video by one @femcelgender posted on X (formerly Twitter) last Sunday showed the “Drag Den Philippines” Season 1 alum, whose real name is Amadeus Fernando Pagente and who goes by the pronouns they or them, doing a lip-sync performance to Taylor Swift’s hit song “Look What You Made Me Do” while holding a framed photo of themselves in costume as the Black Nazarene

In the 1970s, Sison embarked on a new venture. He searched through garage sales and places selling used items, collecting books that people didn't want anymore, but were still full of valuable information. He realized he could offer these books at low prices to many people. He began by selling books in small spots, such as corners of corporate canteens and other locations.

According to the adviser, remote work would also mean people spending less on food and shopping compared to when they go to office, even if online shopping is extremely popular among Pinoys.

“Iyong work-from-home, okay lang iyan sa pandemya, pero sa panahon natin ngayon, wala namang pandemic eh. So dapat tuloy-tuloy ang encouragement to work-from-office para may disiplina rin,” Concepcion said, as quoted by reports.

“Kasi kapag work-from-home tayo, anong mangyayari sa Pilipinas?” the PSAC member added.

The required plebiscites will coincide with the 2023 Barangay and SK elections in October 1. However, I don't know how will they be represented in the Lower House (i.e. which legislative district/s will they be in).

If approved, these eight will be the first municipalities to be formed since July 2009, when three municipalities were formed by the then-ARMM Legislative Assembly in present-day Maguindanao del Sur: Datu Hoffer Ampatuan, Datu Salibo, and Shariff Saydona Mustapha.
