I just wiped my laptop and all config info with it. I've made some new stuff, it is not "fresh from the pen" but I hope you guys like them. I'll start posting some tomorrow.

Thought I should do a quick introduction of myself.

I'm Alyx, but you can call me Ashcat. It's an old slang term from the steam engine era from the time to talk about the person that put the coals into the engine itself.

Hi guys, I've got a Bluesky code to give away, and I figured some of you guys would like it. Just a few requirements:

Edit: It's been 48 hours, and of the 3 people who commented, only one actually didn't have Bluesky already, so DraconicNeo has been sent the code. I have to say the response has been surprising. I offered a free giveaway, and got the post downvoted to hell and nothing but negativity for it. I absolutely won't be repeating this again. Screw deletion, I'd just as soon leave this up so the next person doesn't try to make my mistake.

Any chance we'll get one of the newer Lemmy versions? We're a couple versions behind and the bugged-up comments are kinda annoying. Dunno if an update schedule or something is mentioned anywhere.

Might help with the problem I was previously talking about here. They would need to have a user account created on pawb.social in order to start subscribing, and we could probably add some of our communities on it so smaller servers can find us. This seems like one of the only real ways of countering instance isolation with Lemmy's design.

One of the main problems with Lemmy on a small instance in my experience is that you can only see communities that other members of the instance have subscribed to. However, other members of the instance will never be able to evaluate any new communities to potentially subscribe to without going way out of their way to find them by fully navigating to other instances, or by using something like Lemmy Explorer, both of which require intentional effort and are not very efficient.

Is there a good way to break this cyclical stagnation? As far as I understand, Lemmy Community Seeder can be run on a schedule to take the top communities from the past 24h from the larger instances, which will help naturally seed bigger communities onto this instance. Any other ideas for how to help counteract this problem?

I was thinking of marking an account and start using Matrix, but I wanted to see if there were any plans for a pawb social server in the future. I don't mind waiting a bit if it is in the pipeline but if it's a definitive no, then I know to research the other servers/admins. Thanks for providing this amazing space! I just want to see it grow!

So since I joined this Lemmy journey, I've started looking at other options and found Pixelfed. Does anyone here use it? How is the service? And can you link with Lemmy?

I saw it also uses the activitypub protocol, so I'm just trying to see how far this protocol reaches.

I know that taking the instance offline isn’t an easy decision but it was the right choice to make until the exploit was patched.

For those who weren’t aware, from my understanding there was an exploit with custom emoji on the Lemmy front end that allowed a malicious script to be ran, which was stealing login cookies. This started on Lemmy(dot)world.

This seemed to have been patched this morning.

From what I’ve seen it didn’t seem to propagate through federated comments but never can be too careful.

As a followup to the Beehaw question Yote.zip had yesterday, are there any instances that have currently banned us after we got unbanned from Beehaw? I know the other major furry instance has gotten itself banned from at least one major instance, but I'm unsure how in good standing we currently are.

Noticed I haven't seen any Beehaw posts recently, and then saw that we are on Beehaw's instance banlist. Anyone know what informed that decision?

We're not open signups and we don't even host any mildly-questionable content.

Hiya. This isn't anything to do with pawb.social's operation specifically, but rather the entire Lemmyverse. With the release of v0.18.0, it seems like a regression was introduced and Lemmy's ActivityPub implementation is now a bit broken. Federation between servers is very dodgy, and may have something to do with different versions of Lemmy communicating, e.g. 0.17.4 <-> 0.18.0.

Edits, posts, upvotes/downvotes, etc are not very consistently federated, and I've noticed that there's been a lot of dropped interactions. Of particular note, Kbin hasn't received any of my activity in 4-5 days now, and Beehaw seems to also be struggling to receive or send activity.

With 0.17.4 being a websocket nightmare, 0.18.0 not having captcha, and interactions being frequently dropped, we're sort of in a state of chaos at the moment.
