Loblaws is out of control

A sub devoted to highlighting the ridiculous cost of living in Canada right now. We’d like to thank our corporate overlord Galen Weston Jr. of Loblaws for continually raising grocery prices so he can get a big fat bonus cheque every year while the rest of Canadians struggle to make ends meet.

I am outraged about this. Went to my local Maxi to pick up eggs (they were half price than others) and I saw this on top of something else. I get them from costco anyways, but this kind of shrinkflation is really annoying. Other soft drinks are probably going to get the same treatment

Here is a chilling quote from the video: "In 1986 there were 8 large grocery chains across Canada. Each was owned by a different company. Today we are down to 5 and 3 of them loblaw, Empire and Metro control close to 60 % of the market."

The orange and the blue portions need to be larger.

I don’t mind if my commute is a little bit longer now, I would rather have Canada Post keep all the money than continue to finance the Galen boy.

I shop at No Frills, a discount chain in Ontario that's a part of the loblaws oligopoly. In the last 6 months, I've noticed more price tags on shelves that advertise sales prices that have expired. This means that after I glance at the tag in the aisles, I will expect to pay the reduced price. However, at the register, I will be charged the full price. If I fail to notice the discrepancy at the register, I will end up paying more than I expected to and more than was advertised. To the best of my knowledge, in this scenario, the company is not considered to be at fault for false advertising. If I say I was charged the wrong price, they can just say they forgot to take down the expired tag and I'm not entitled to the cheaper price or anything related to the formerly called Scanning Code of Practice.

I'm seeing these expired sales tags more and more. At best, loblaws can't be trusted to perform a basic duty; more nefariously, this may be an intentional scam. Word to the wise!

If there's only 1 date (in size 8 or 10 font) on a price tag advertising a sale, it's presumably the expiry date. Some tags may have both start and stop/expiry dates

To our community members,

We are excited to announce our e-petition has been supported by MP Matthew Green of Hamilton Centre. We are thankful for behind-the-scenes support from MP Adam Van Koverden and MP Bardish Chagger.

While we remain non-partisan in our work, despite what our biggest fan might say, we welcome all political backgrounds and affiliations. Our group represents many people, many stories, and with that comes many political ideas and approaches.

We are here together as one group. We simply want decreased grocery prices with increased food security for ALL Canadians, full stop.

Thank you for your continued support

An easy way to affect Loblaws' bottom line while saving on your own grocery expenses.

Not only will I not spend money at Loblaws stores this month, I will also take $750 away from them by using my points.

Even better is a promotion starts tomorrow that if I spend $60 worth of points, they'll add $20 worth back onto my balance.

For those looking to participate in the community boycott starting May 1st

  • We are boycotting Loblaw and Loblaw owned stores for the entire month of May 2024 (obviously you can boycott past this point in time)

  • We are asking for a reduction in prices by 15%

  • We are asking Loblaw remove "member only pricing" where customers are forced to sign up for a PC optimum card in order to receive sale prices

  • If shopping is taking place at Loblaw stores, we are focusing on purchasing loss leaders
