Democracy is a wonderful invention by the people over history to protect themselves from the power of wealth. That's what democracy was in Greece, that's what democracy has been ever since. It's an invention of the people, nobody else but the people. There's no great philosopher that invented democracy, there's no great political theorist that thought about it and put it together, there's no great intellectual or writer or artist who created democracy! It was the mass of people! Anonymous, ordinary working people, working women and working men, people trying to survive, they're the ones that fought for it and they're the ones that gained whatever modicum of decency and security we might have in this inhumane capitalist system throughout history. The artists and intellectuals were too busy being artists and intellectuals.

Every day I get a new favorite quote from Parenti.

Under the new rule, companies or entities can be considered joint employers over a group of individuals if both entities determine one or more of seven different conditions of employment: 1) wages, benefits, and other compensation; 2) hours of work and scheduling; 3) assignment of duties; 4) supervision of those duties; 5) work rules and discipline; 6) hiring and discharge; and 7) safety and health conditions. The new rule looks at whether the possible joint employers have the authority to control those conditions, even if they don’t exercise that control. This is much broader than the 2020 rule that held that joint employers had to possess and exercise substantial direct and immediate control over essential terms and conditions of employment. The NLRB states that this new final rule more accurately reflects the common law definition of joint employers.

This is huge. Several million people just got lifted out of a grey area in regards to worker rights today.

The article is mostly about Kari Lake being on her show, but wow.

“Kamala, she’s got citizenship issue,” Barr claimed, which is a baseless accusation, of course. “Did you see her where she tries to act like she’s human? They’re on the third clone with her. … She’s just [controlled by former President Barack] Obama, so he’s already on his third term destroying our country. And then so if he gets her in there, that’ll be his fourth term. He’s a little tyrant.”

As the conversation progressed, Lake suggested that Barr ought to run for president, which Barr asserted was unnecessary “because in 2012, I declared myself the de facto president of the American people for life.”
