Over blocked or missed my gauge, who knows but this was too much. It was frogged for it's sin.

I discovered that my most spectacular knitting fails have no picture evidence... The one that bums me out, I could have sworn I took a picture, a failed unicorn horn. I knit a unicorn horn to attach to a hoodie and wanted to have the spiral up the horn. I knit the horn, threaded yarn around through the stitches, and pulled it to create the 3D effect. The tip of the horn looked very NSFW.

These were supposed to be the first of two pairs for a Discworld makealong but it didn't quite work out that way with the whole illness thing.

Also, couldn't take proper pics yet so you get me lying on my back on the bed wiggling my feet in the air instead, which actually might be better than real photos!

Pattern is Eskarina Socks by Rachel Coopey and the yarn is Socks Yeah! also (coincidentally) by Rachel Coopey!

I knit the size M which is way bigger than I normally go but another knitter who usually does my size advised it. Honestly, I could totally have gone with small, they're ever-so-slightly baggy.

They are also very awesome though so idc I'll just wear them over warm tights 😄

I noticed that I tend to work on my projects in low light. I want to save my eyes and invest in a good light, and I remember that on reddit people recommended neck lights. Do you know any manufacturers that you would recommend?

This is my first knitted garment. Actually the third, but we'll get to that. I got this gradient yarn during my trip to Spain last September. Initially I had no plans on what I would do with it, I had mostly knit accesories and just dipped my toes into shawls, which is what I originally thought I'd make. But when I got back home I though I might try kniting my first piece of garment so off I went to Ravelry and found this lovely pattern from Carina Spencer.

I initially knitted this in my usual size (38) and with US 4 (3.5mm) needles... and it ended waaay too large. My mom said it was because it's a linen/viscose blend and it tends to "give" a lot. So I frogged it and re-knit it in a couple sizes down (same needle size). Still. Too. Large.

At this point I realized knitting willy-nilly wasn't going to work anymore so went ahead and knit a gauge sample, which ended up resulting that I needed to size down to US 2 1/2 (3.00mm) needles. On this third attempt I decided to knit with the colors reversed (teal to burgundy).

MUCH BETTER.

It is not 100% perfect fit, but it's good enough that I'm happy to actually wear this outside so I'm declaring it finished. Finally.

Pictured is the Lindsey Thornburg Pendleton Black Los Ojos Mid-Length Cloak.

It's sold out (and honestly a little out of my price range) and I was wondering if you fine folks have a similar cloak pattern you know of?

Thanks for the help!

Hello knitters! I have setted myself the goal to learn a new technique every few months. Now that I'm comfortable knitting in the round I'm looking to dip my toes into colorwork and was wondering if you had any recomendations for patterns to introduce me to fair isle. Preferably a small project, as I'd like to work my way into a sweater.

Thanks in advance for any recs, I've already learnt so much from you guys here :)

Stuck at home and need a new project. Prefer something mind numbing. Double up? Malabrigo wool, fingering if I remember right. My brain is frozen after this week. 🥶

Hmm??? Still a bit leary on the fins. (Here's the first iteration using a plastic bag for the fins).

Logically, the furriness shouldn't be an issue and only minutely add to their hairball formation...but, it still makes me feel a bit uneasy.

Eh, I don't have any old clothes, nor any ribbon large enough on hand...so just used what I could find that'd be different for the time being. Pppppp!

Meh, once I figure out something for the fins that I feel comfortable with then I can finalize the patterns (anomalocaris, goldfish, ammonite, and a squid).

I got some skeins of yarn as christmas gifts and I had been looking for a quick easy project to usem the for. Also I'm a avid cyclist. I found this pattern on Ravelry and thought it'd make a cute gift for my cycling friends

I used 4.0mm size needles and casted on 56 stitches (28st per side) and worked in the round using the magic loop technique (pattern originally is worked flat).

I knitted these in one afternoon as a break between larger projects. I feel like this is an easy project to adapt to different yarn weights, perfect for using leftover yarn. My friend really liked them, but has yet to try them on a ride because it's summer over here lol

TL;DR Do you expect stockinette in a silk/mohair blend (Tilia by Filcolana) to grow longer after blocking?

The complete story

Do you remember my fluffy WIP of doom? It was nearly finished before the holidays. But I ran out of yarn, with no hope of getting my hands on more of the same. Filcolana has apparently changed suppliers or something and the new lots look completely different nowadays (much more muted colours - I'm really happy I have the older version).

Anyway, I was absolutely devastated. So I took pictures of the sweater to show you, thinking I might take away some of the body length in order to finish the sleeves. Seeing the pics, however, I think I'm not mad at the proportions as they are.

Side note: Thank all the gods of knitting for TAAT, otherwise I'd have one sleeve and a half.

OK, now time for a confession: When I started this project, I didn't block my swatch. So I don't know how the proportions will change after blocking/wearing etc. I'm afraid that the sleeves will grow longer, ending up like too-short-full-length-sleeves instead of 3/4. In which case I should unravel a bit of the sleeves before doing the I-cord edge.

What do you think?

I still consider myself somewhat of a recent knitter and while I've tried a few materials I've not quite settled on any particularly. I got the cheapest set of interchangeable needles I could get locally (KnitPro Trendz) which is acrylic and I already had to buy a spare because I broke one needle when I accidentally sat on it 😂

Now that I'm realizing knitting in the round is kinda my thing (as I've not touched a regular needle since getting said set) I'm wondering if it'd be worth to upgrade and if a change in material would improve my knitting experience at all?

I'd love to read any input and/or recommendations from more experienced knitters :)

I have KnitPro, Lantern Moon and Chiaogoo sets available locally.

Been back at work on my Eskarina Socks and I almost had them finished off yesterday but then realised the bit of knitting I'd done at the dentist was all wrong and needed to be redone. Woe.

Will probably get that redone and the toe finished off tomorrow though so prepare for gratuitous sock pics soon!

Last week I set my crafting goals for the year, and one of them is to make a shawl. Now, that's a big deal because I've been self-banned from making shawls for about two and a half years, but it makes sense for...reasons.

So to that end I picked up the Big Damn Heroes pattern that I've had bookmarked literally since it came out in 2013 and have started some good old-fashioned swatching. Oh shawl knitting, how I missed thee.

What's everyone else up to this week? Knitting yourself some emergency mittens to get through the cold snap? Or alternatively for our southern hemisphere friends, maybe resenting all yarn-based activities due to heat and humidity?

Either way, here's your opportunity for weather related knitting complaints.

Hi all, merry 2024! It looks like my instance is back to federating properly so to celebrate, an update post!

I've been gently reminded (thanks, whoever that was in my YT comments 😅) that while I was going about my new year business, catching up on work and doing the hoovering and generally feeling like a real on-top-of-stuff adult, I'd actually forgotten to update our monthly knitting theme 🤷‍♀️

So, first of all, apologies for that one! Please accept this sock yarn porn as partial repayment .

I thought I'd wait a couple days into January to do it, until lemm.ee federation was fixed, and then forgot. Which is maybe slightly better than completely forgetting. Sort of. In a way.

Anyway. Given that we're somehow halfway through the month already, my body and mind are a mess, it's Saturday evening and also I see you're still enthusiastically posting socks, I've made an executive mod decision to just extend the sock theme and move "knitting fails" to February instead.

I hope nobody is waiting in the wings, desperate to post their fails, and now super disappointed. But if you are, just post them anyway, let's face it these rules are more like guidelines and I promise you'll still get counted 😀

Hope everyone's having a good start to the year, and you can probably expect me to be this disorganised every January so if anyone wants to be co-moderator of this place to avoid it happening again...well...my DMs are open!

It's summer in the southern hemisphere. Perfect time to knit a pair of wool socks!! This is a toe up, 3x1 rib sock with fish lips short row heel. Probably too bulky to go in shoes, but I can wear them around the house when it's cooler out.

Yarn is Naturally Gallipoli from the craft store. It feels a lot nicer than I expected.

Made my 2nd set of socks as a gift for a friend. I based them on the Crazy Sock Lady "How to knit socks on magic loop" video tutorial, but using a k3p1 pattern and a jersey stitch heel instead of slip stitch.

This is my first time using self-striping yarn and it's so fun! I loved seeing the design come to life as I knit :)

Hello everyone! Just here to say that I am truly blown away by the difference having nice needles makes! I am a crocheter branching into knitting, so I got a silly little cheap pair of needles to see if knitting was something I’d like. I enjoyed it but there was something frustrating about it that I couldn’t quite identify. I decide that I want to try to make a pair of socks, and thus ordered some dpn (Knitter’s pride Karbonz) and I am having so much fun just knitting the swatch! They flow and click in such a satisfying way, making it abundantly clear how terrible my other needles are. That’s all, just sharing my excitement :)

#Yarnuary prompt: who taught you how to #FiberCraft ?

My mom taught me when I was 6 or 7 or so. I remember not understanding how to turn a round, so my mom had to flip my coaster for me. 😂 Then I dropped it for years.

I didn't really start knitting seriously until college. That was before I was diagnosed with #ADHD, so all I knew was I concentrated better in class when I had my hands busy working on hats. Been knitting ever since!

Wanted to post more socks this month but between illness, lemm.ee breaking (hai this is @[email protected] alt account), my hard drive breaking, and general holiday nonsense I have failed to do so.

So here's a collage of a load of them instead!

The ones in the top left were my first ever ones, I'd got overconfident and committed to making his n' hers pairs so when I hated the first lot there were still two more socks to go. It put me off trying socks again for SO LONG 😂

Will update later with the pattern links for anyone interested but right now I need food!
